My thoughts on big companies

Recently I watched some videos and read some stuff about big companies and how they work (just something that piqued my curiosity).

The overlaying theme of what I saw was malpractice, i.e. how a lot of big companies tend to slip and do questionable things that benefit them but may harm others; either consumers or their employees.  While I didn’t start out looking for that, it was where I ended up. It interested me so I decided to look at it some more.

What I saw was saddening. Basically, what I saw and read was stuff about how some companies cut corners on products making them faulty or they put a lot of pressure on their employees to meet nearly impossible goals, all so that they can make more money for themselves. Why would they do this? Aren’t they making enough money?

To me it looks like it all boils down to one simple thing, greed.  No matter how much they make, it’s still not enough. They just want more and more, and sadly sometimes they don’t care about how their actions affects others, as long as they get the results they want.

The first case not only leads to bad products, it can sometimes be very dangerous. Like if the products are car breaks then a driver could get seriously hurt. The second case can harm people in a different way, a company may overwork their employees to the point of exhaustion. This could lead to serious injuries. Then of course there is the mental and psychological strain it can put on a person.

Not only that, sometimes big companies will go out of their way to cover up huge mistakes they’ve done, mistakes with serious consequences.

There are a ton of examples of big companies doing countless things that may be unethical and harmful, all you have to do is look them up on google, they aren’t that hard to find.

What does that mean though? Should we do away with big companies all together and only rely on small companies and services to get what we want and go through our daily lives?

No, that isn’t the answer.

Think about it this way, if we didn’t have the drive to make big companies, there’s no way we would have made so much progress as human beings. Things like cellular phones, the internet, even desk lamps, all came about because of our drive to be better, a drive that is also the reason why we have big companies in the first place.

Besides which, having big companies is very convenient. They become names we know well and trust. When we hear that something came from a particular big company, we know that it’s good because of the company’s name and reputation. We trust in certain big names and there is nothing wrong with that.

So what’s the answer? It lies with those in charge, they need to remember what it means to be a good decent human beings, be responsible and keep themselves in check and remember the people too,  not just think about  getting more money. It’s okay to push the envelope, but don’t tear it.

When you do good things, people remember you better and they remember you fondly. I know that a company can’t be perfect, but there is no need to be. We all just have to remember to be good to each other and show some understanding.
