How Christmas can help stress

‘Tis the season or it soon will be. Christmas, the time of year when family and friends give each other gifts and share a little happiness and tell all the kids that Santa Claus is coming.

While Christmas is a fun time overall, there are certain things which need to be done especially in the beginning that can stress people out like:

  • Decorating the house
  • Decorating the tree
  • Buying presents
  • Inviting friends and family
  • Cooking food

But then there are also things that can calm you down too like:

  • Decorating the house
  • Decorating the tree
  • Buying presents
  • Inviting friends and family
  • Cooking food

Confused? Let me explain. As clichéd as it may sound, it all depends on how you look at it. If you look at these activities as chores that you need to get done then you’re not going to like them, but if you look at them as getting ready for a fun get-together with people you love then you are obviously going to have a lot more fun doing the tasks! Plus, keeping yourself busy is a good distraction and can calm you down if you let it; decorating in particular can have an extremely calming effect, almost therapeutic.

Personally, decorating the tree is one of my favourite things to do. We don’t have a big tree just a small artificial tree that has started to break apart now, but I still love taking it out and putting up the streamers and Christmas balls and the piece on top (most people put a star, we have a fairy). And of course, after all the stress-full/ stress-reducing activities are done then there’s the main event, Christmas itself.

Everyone does something different on Christmas, some people go to a holiday retreat, some people go out to eat, some people invite everyone they know and throw a party, some people just go to said parties, some people just like to have small get-togethers, and some people just like to watch a nice movie (Christmas themed most of the time). Whatever it may be, they do what they like and have fun, and then everyone gets to open their presents. Some are awesome, some are nice, some not so much, but hey it’s the thought that counts.

I’ll end the post with this; Christmas can either be a great fun time or a stressful time depending upon your past experiences and the way you look at it. In any case Christmas is meant to be a time of joy, peace and giving, so no matter who you are and no matter what you believe, try to have a good time this time of year.

Merry Christmas everyone!
